Whether you are new in the box and if you have been training Cross Training for a while, you need to know that there are a few rules that you must meet for the best coexistence with both your coaches and the rest of the athletes.
I always say that Cross Training is a separate world that has its own vocabulary, its own ways of behaving, and therefore its own rules not always written but that will undoubtedly make your life easier, and will make you love this sport even more .
1. Be punctual
By this I do not mean that you run when 20 seconds are missing, throw the backpack in a corner, and arrive panting just before the coach begins to explain the WOD on the board.
Arriving punctual means arriving with enough time to place your material, change your shoes and at least be able to greet some colleagues before starting.
It is not only for not eating the burpees that could fall as punishment but for mere education.
2. Greet ever goes out of style
What less than greeting your classmates and coach, but pay special attention to when someone new to class arrives. As we have said at the beginning, Cross Training can be a new world, and rooks or rookies can feel somewhat lost above all at the beginning. Brief words of welcome, present yourself, or indicate where the material can make these people feel more included in the group from minute 1 and you can get it just a few seconds of your time.
3. You have two ears and a mouth because listening is twice as important to talk
In Box the authority is the coach and therefore you must respect it. This does not mean that you have to be as in a military stop, but out of respect for you, your coach and your classmates let him finish explaining the exercises before consulting any questions (or making a click with a partner). Humor never hurts, but remember that your classmates are going to train not to see a monologue.
4. You are all athletes but none is the same as the one next
The movement that you dominate the most can be the one that resists a partner, so when they are explaining something, try to respect it as if you see him with a much lighter weight. Remember that you are not the coach, if you think that a partner is doing something wrong for their health or for the operation of the class warns your coach, he will know how to act so that the class continues to develop and be able to correct a range of movement or the use of a certain material.
5. The wod just ends when the last of your colleagues ends
We all end up in training wanting to go for the water, throw ourselves to the ground and try to recover our breath. But believe me fills much more than any beverage or breath of air to encourage a partner and check how it squeezes in the last play because you are by their side. And of course once you all hit the 5 with every 1 of them, it is a way of recognizing the work done.
6. Take care of the material
The material in the box is usually very hard and resistant, but that does not imply that it should not receive minimal care. Avoid dropping the bar without records or with 5 or 10 kilos albums. Do not monopolize material around you, as you stop needing to hang it again in place, this will make the whole environment much safer for you and your classmates. And of course, if you stain material either magnesium or even blood or sweat, do not forget to clean it well.
7. Count your play
Yes during the WOD you are able to tell your play, control the time, vary your strategy and also tell the networks of your classmates, you are not doing well. The first thing is that you must be your own judge, what your classmates do with their performance is their thing, in addition the energy you spend on that you are not dedicating it to the WOD.
8. Be tidy
Both during warming and in the WOD or if you are in Open Box, use the fair and necessary material and in an orderly way, with this you will avoid stumbling blocks or that for example a bar can be filmed!
9. All time deserve to be on the board
Whether you have finished the first, as if you have had to encourage all your classmates, if you have given it all your name deserves to be on the board. Do not compare yourself with the others, get together with the time you will do tomorrow.
10. Be a patient
The Cross Training has dozens of both gymnastic and Olympic movements, it is impossible to do them all well and much more impossible to do them well in your first year or in your early years. See little by little and always prioritizing weight technique.
Extra rule! Remember why you are here
Unless your life and your economy depend on your performance at the Cross Training you come to the box to train to be more fit, disconnect from day to day, or simply to have a good time. Remember that about all the days when you do not give you as well as you would like.
