The CrossFit Open is coming up

Se acerca el CrossFit Open

The CrossFit Open is where it all begins. It's the global event that kicks off the CrossFit season where athletes from around the world compete in the same WODs to see who is the fittest of them all.

The CrossFit Open is not just for any athlete who wants to compete professionally in the sport. It is certainly a great first step for those who dream of making it to the CrossFit Games, but at its core it is an event for the entire CrossFit community.

First... What is the CrossFit Open?

For those of you who are new to the craze and unfamiliar with the sport, the Open is the start of the CrossFit season. For elite athletes around the world, it's the first step toward the CrossFit Games taking place this August in Madison, USA. For everyone else... it's a fun way to celebrate with the community, see what you can do, get out of your comfort zone, and most of all, have fun with your boxing buddies while being part of a world-class event.

For three weeks, CrossFit HQ will be publishing a workout every Thursday night. CrossFit … The first WOD of the open, 23.1, will be published live and for the whole world from Madrid !

In the 4 days following the publication of the WODs, athletes from all over the world who have registered for the Open will have to perform the workout under the watchful eye of a judge and register their scores online. Each workout will be available in several versions, you choose which one you want to do, depending on your age or physical condition.

Ok... but why should I sign up for the Open?

Here are some reasons to convince you to sign up, but please ask your coach if you have any other questions!

Reason 1: Get out of your comfort zone

Every year, the Open workouts make CrossFitters' adrenaline reach its highest levels. The Open is definitely a way to push your limits and see what you are capable of. These are workouts that you will remember in the future, and workouts that you can repeat year after year to see your progress (except for the 19.1 AMRAP wallballs and rowing... I don't think anyone will want to do it for fun).

The emotions are so strong that many athletes achieved their first pull-up, their first RMU, a new RM, or have simply realized that thrusters are not as bad as they seem (there will be few of these...).

Reason 2: You can be part of a world-class event while supporting your local community

The CrossFit Open is a huge global event. It's a thrill to be a part of it even if you don't expect to make it to the next stop on the road to the CrossFit Games. No matter what city or country you live in, if there's a CrossFit box you can be sure that everyone will be talking about the same thing and sharing their stories. Anyone who does CrossFit will tell you what an amazing community it is. The Open can truly be a life-changing experience. If you plan to do the Open at your box, people will be cheering you on more than ever with every rep you do. You'll get to know your fellow athletes better, cheer them on, help them get through each workout, and most of all, create friendships that will last beyond the box.

Reason 3: Everyone can participate

Anyone can participate in the Open. It doesn't matter what your age or fitness level is. There are options for all levels. It doesn't matter if you've just started training CrossFit or if you've been training for years, the Open is designed for all athletes. At the end of the WOD, you'll feel an incredible sense of achievement.

Reason 4: It gives you a different view of this sport

During the Open, you'll have a unique opportunity to do the exact same workouts as the fittest people on the planet. And while it's humbling to compare scores, it's also incredible to see what the best can do. But beware…this will make you a die-hard CrossFit fan.

Reason 5: It's fun

This is the main reason to do the Open. The CrossFit Open is a unique experience where you are guaranteed to have a good time. Competing in the Open is not the same as finishing your regular workout, there is a whole fun community atmosphere around you, where you feel the support of your peers, you compete with and against them and you feel even more proud of your efforts than you normally would.

The Open pushes you, it makes you nervous just before the countdown hits 0, someone counts your reps, you feel important, you get a score, you have a point of reference for next year, you laugh. You see how much you have improved and you see how much others have improved…

Do you know that feeling of achievement you get when you complete a really hard WOD? Imagine it, but much more intense. In short, signing up for the Open is an experience that is well worth it.
