It seems that this year we are going to suffer high temperatures and the wods in the box are going to be very hot, so we are going to give you some refreshing guidelines so that you can enjoy your Cross Training workouts with the maximum guarantees.
Hydrate yourself
Your body is made up of approximately 60% water, and if you sweat a lot in summer, you have to compensate. So remember that at this time of year you can't go without a bottle, shaker or even a thermos in your backpack to keep it at the most refreshing and pleasant temperature.
We remind you that although at this time of year it is very appealing to have a few beers with your friends after the WOD, it has been proven that alcohol only causes more dehydration, so do not replace water. Drink water and if you want to drink something else afterwards, that is up to you.
Shirt off?
In Cross Training it is normal to see athletes without a shirt, but I remind you that if you wear a shirt made of a technical material, to which sweat does not adhere, the shirt will create a cooling effect when air enters it and the sweat itself will keep you cool, so it is not always the best option. And if you take it off, remember to wipe the sweat from wherever you sit or lie down.
Do we train in the sun?
If your gym offers the possibility of training outside, you'll probably like the idea, but try to avoid peak sun hours. Also protect yourself with sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. And be careful with your equipment - a kettlebell or barbell in the sun can burn when you pick it up!
Finally, keep in mind that training outside does not mean doing it in the sun; training outdoors and in the shade is equally healthy and somewhat less dangerous.
Watching the Elite sweat at the Games
Watching others sweat can be refreshing, and August is the time for the CrossFit Games, something like the Olympic Games of Cross Training. This year, the event is from August 1 to 6 in Madison. If you can't make it, several YouTube channels are broadcasting it live. Don't miss the opportunity to see the elite having as much fun as you!
Summer with V for Vary
Remember that practicing other sports is part of the definition of fitness in 100 words and something that is highly recommended in Cross Training, because what we learn in the box is applicable in other disciplines. Summer and good weather in general usually encourages us to do other activities, from mountain routes, cycling, running, climbing, swimming... take advantage and enjoy your potential outside your comfort zone.
Suffering more than necessary is not necessary
If you like doing very intense exercises such as running, rowing or cycling, the good weather encourages you to do it outdoors, but if your personal or professional schedule does not allow you to do it during "safe" hours, outside of peak heat hours you can always use the machines in the box.
And the fact is that boxes, due to their large structure and normal height, make it possible to train long sessions of rowing, cycling or even running in a healthier way than in a commercial gym.
In addition, our machines have systems that resemble external conditions, such as curved belts, bicycles with air dumpers and a “clutch” whose pedals stop turning if you stop pedaling, as on street bikes, or rowing.
Take advantage of the good weather, place the machine near the door and enjoy a controlled environment.
