Gymnastics adaptations in Crossfit Adaptive
Who is Xabi Osa? We all know the athlete Xabi who leaves us speechless and is an example for everyone, but what is Xabi like with his family, friends...?
I'm a simple guy. I like to go on adventures, but what matters most to me is company. When I'm with my family and friends, I like to be with them. To disconnect. I don't have all the time I would like to be with them, so I enjoy it to the fullest.
How did you get started in the world of training and fitness?
I was never very athletic. In fact, when I was young, I was quite the opposite. When I moved to the USA, I started training at the gym, since I couldn't surf. My history with sport began at Gold's Gym. I started training and eventually ended up working there, rising to the position of operations manager. Sport taught me that if I worked hard, I got results, and I took that into all aspects of my life: at university, at work and in sport. I started playing rugby, doing Strongman and ended up competing in an Open Strongman competition. I loved the environment, but I loved the preparation process even more. Going day by day, the sacrifice, facing daily frustration, fighting.
"From seeing myself as incapable, to lifting stones. All because I didn't let myself be guided by the part of me that doubted. I began to focus on the 1% good instead of the 99% bad that I saw in my life, and to put all my energy into it."
I returned to Spain and discovered CrossFit, and after a few months I found out that there was a world championship for adapted CrossFit. I signed up and dedicated my whole life to being ready to face it. I qualified and went to the world championship, and ever since then. I like to wake up every day and prove to myself that it is possible. That it doesn't matter what we lack, but with what we have, if we make an effort, we can do it.
In my category, the most suitable exercises are gymnastics exercises. Muscle up, Handstand push up, handstand walk…
But I refuse to let these movements be impossible. I strive every day to be able to do everything. Without complaints, without excuses.
Today we bring you 4 gymnastics adaptations that Xabi performs on a daily basis. Thank you for showing us that if you really fight for something, there are no limits.
Rope Climb Adaptation
Adaptations for cage work such as pull-ups and toes to bars
Adaptations for Handstandwalk and Handstand Push Ups
Adaptation for Jump Rope (Double Unders)
As for my programming, it is that of a non-adapted athlete, with additional work to strengthen my body unilaterally so that the structure can bear the load. I train two sessions a day. One aerobic and one more weightlifting, strength... I communicate a lot with the coach since this world is quite new and there is not much knowledge, but his desire to learn and mine lead us to a harmony.
TECHNICAL WOD TO PUT INTO PRACTICE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE LEARNED:
Accessory work;
Prone W. Pull ups
Hs walk
Strict HSPU
